To keep it short, make it possible to progress without spending outrageous amounts of money.
The max i've ever spent on a video game is 60 bucks. Why the hell would you ask for more than that, besides pure, evil greed? There's a special place in hell reserved for those who would take advantage of gambling addictions in others just to feed their pockets.
Unless you don't believe in hell, in which case you'll just be reincarnated as a dog, and if you're a bad dog, you'll get a chance as a snake. Fail there, and you'll wander the astral planes as bacterium.
