Clan map mechanics

Looking into the best ways to visualize map mechanics. Clearly fighting against a map tells you how it opens up but, what if you never see another clan using that particular map. How do you figure out it's mechanics?

    Hexes with arrows are the starting points, attacking the Arrow cells opens up neighboring hexes.
