I couldn't do it either. I think I need to upgrade the food and appliances to 100% each. I even tried using Cupcake Lady (VIP for Cutie Cakes) it didn't work.
I had all my food and decor upgrades, and almost all kitchen appliances upgraded. It was the combination of prep characters that finally allowed me to get 5 stars on these episodes. Dark Chocolate Pudding and Barrel O' Coffee were the ones that worked for me. Also, I had been playing episode 2 a TON trying different combos of prep characters, so I already knew the general order of the recipes that would be asked for and was able to begin prepping all of the pies before they were even asked for, allowing me to capitalize on the extra coins from serving customers faster. Also make sure you're swiping tips to maximize output.
