New message notifications icons won't go away

How do I get the "new notifications" icon to disappear on my news feeds? In the activities section of the game (where you can buy outfits and do the prize wheel spins) the "news" tab has an icon that says I have 5 unread notifications but I have reviewed all of the items in this section multiple times. It just won't go away and it's driving me crazy. I'm almost ready to uninstall the game so I don't have to see that little red circle anymore.
