If you want to play the region 6 holiday hunts without gold, try this:
Buy the Region 1-3 holiday guns (assault rifle and shot gun). Equip fully tricked out Region 6 assault rifle (clayton cavalier) as primary and then equip Holiday Assault rifle secondary. Then go to region 6 and play the holiday assault rifle series. I have been able to play without getting locked out. The same is true if you equip the region 6 shotgun primary and holiday shotgun secondary and then try to play the region 6 holiday shot gun series.

Almost true, you will not be able to finish the shotgun series, since the 27th hunt requires a shotgun with 16 capacity and the snow plow (region 1-3) stops at 14 capacity. Besides, you will meet a SERIOUS challenge starting with the 21th hunt. There are three ram levels which require either luck or extra items or both.
Even if I cannot get to the end of the shotgun level, it will add some variety to the hunt.
