I had the exact same thing happen to me, was playing through it for weeks. Finally got a solution on my own. I'm going to preface this by saying that I have a rooted galaxy s3. Here is what I've done: I installed titanium backup and backed up the entire game, then I uninstalled it, downloaded again from the play store, installed it again, ran it the first time just to make it sign in via Google plus, then went back to titanium backup and restore the game, Data ONLY. You will have to download all the maps over again, but everything else should be there, including weapons and progress.
