Any rod fishing tips?

I can't seem to catch a fish with a rod, apparently I can't figure out how to reel it in.i lose every fish as i time out.

    throw the line, follow the fish, when in focus press and try to get the line inside the green bar and repeat

    of course ur rod needs to be properly upgraded
