Stuck on searching for multiplayer invite friends and create room for multiplayer.

So I added my friend who lives in Australia to my friends list and I live in California. I dont know if that has any affect but I see her when I go to invite friends to play. And she is on the same level with me. So I click to add her and click the floor we are both on and it gets stuck searching and doesnt go past that. I can do quickplay with others in multiplayer but for some reason it will not let me play with her. The same thing goes for when I try to create a room. It takes me through the whole process but gets stuck searching. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?:(
