After latest update patch, "Sorry Update Failed" message. Retry ineffective.

I get "Sorry Update Failed" on the main load screen. The blue progress bar reaches the same point each retry, roughly 50%. Must I uninstall and reinstall, or, judging by the majority of comments, stick to uninstall and call it good? I've put a fair amount of dollars into the game over the months and would like to see what's new. I use a samsung galaxy s3 that's just five months old. Thanks for any assist.
