"Accessing Network" whilst in middle of level

Before the update, this problem didn't exist.
Now, when in the middle of a level in Tower of Heroes, the game will suddenly freeze up and a message saying "Accessing Network" will flash for several minutes (meanwhile you are unable to pause or control your character).
Thus, enemies kill you because you can't f
do a thing about it.
It happens (less frequently) in standard maps eg Ivar Mountains.
What is Glu's obsession with having a constant connection to the internet? This is making EW3 unplayable.

I can use everything else but EW3 just fine, I even called my ISP to be sure the problem was not with them..

Glu your games need stabilization immediately. Why do we keep getting updates that don't address bugs that have existed for quite some time now. I just don't understand the concept of adding new content to a core that is so obviously broken.
thats one of the remedy. i hit power button to off my phone screen thereby forcing the game to pause. hitting pause whilst accessing network in endless WONT WORK.
