Elite zombie hunt in Region 9

Is it necessary to complete the Region 9 zombie hunt with a pistol before you can move on to Region 10? I have completed all other regions including Hidden region 1; or, is there another way to purchase thr Elite pistol without spending all my gold ( would have 13 pieces left and worked too hard to get them)? I have 11,300,000 and would be happy to buy it; or, I have over 800 platinum pieces that I would use! Thanks for any help!
