Updated an app and lost ALL data?

Hey there,
there was recently an update for the Kardashian app and I did it. After downloading the update, I went onto the app to find I had to restart completely!
This is bad news as I was level 18, number #1 and an A-list. I did so many tasks and I was doing really good but now I have to restart?
Why did this happen? Is there a way to fix it?
