Stars and hearts clothing & stuff question

Okay so I got all these outfits ,shoes,hair y'all know they have either stars for work and hearts for dating ? I think anyway,once u buy them the heart/star disappears,I can't remember which was what. Is there any way to tell or am I simply s.o.l?

    Once you buy clothing, shoes, accessories, etc., it is automatically added towards your star and heart "points." What you wear doesn't matter but your total star and heart points matter for professional work and dating.
