How do you remove a contact?

I get a lot of friend requests through Game Center, but after I add them and open up the game, I can't see them in my contact list.
Is there a maximum number of contacts you are allowed to have?
Also, does anyone know how to remove a contact? I have maxed out the relationship of some of my contacts, so I wish to remove them to make space for other potential contacts.

As for a maximum amount, there isn't one but there certainly is a max that is shown from what I have experienced but haven't got to the bottom of how they are arranged yet.
