I got a new phone and when I downloaded the game I was kicked back six levels,lost stars and items previously purchased with stars and also my husband. I used the same account as before a little upset to have lost everything after months.
I'm sorry you lost your progress It's never a good idea to rely on your account to get back your previous data. For future reference, I would suggest reading this http://ggnbb.glu.com/showthread.php?108690-The-Best-Way-to-Save-Transfer-your-Game . If you play on iOS and have your iCloud Drive enabled, your game data should save, even if you delete your app.

I would send them a support ticket.
You need to include:
-Your device information, the game name where you need help and a detailed description of the problem.
