Also Iād just like to address the fact that EVERY sys ive ever done, Iāve had to change my dolls skin tone to a lighter one because if I use my actual skin tone I get much MUCH lower votes than if I used a lighter skin tone. Honestly it just makes me really sad that thatās the only way for me to get higher votes...and Iāve tested this sooo many times and each time, my actual darker skin tone with the same clothes gets votes in like the low 30s and if I use a lighter skin tone and the same clothes I get votes in high 40s and 50s. Just wanted to address that honestly, itās been bothering me for a while...
I hear you, @LaLaLola š Thereās a lot of prejudice out there. I think talking about it is the first step towards change and Iām glad you mentioned it. It sucks to have to change your skin color to get better scoresĀ

If that's true, it really sucks. Honest to God, I don't look at skin color when I vote. I really only look at the dress, and maybe the hair and handheld.

@LaLaLola I hear you. I really just noticed it on the Pretty In Pink SYS. I got way better scores when I gave my doll pale skin and blonde hair, even though she had on the exact same dress š It's just really up to the voters and what they think looks best.

@AliBryant do those dresses always look that way? Iām on iOS and they look completely different when dyed, but in a good way. Iāll try to snap a pic.Ā
Weāve had these discussions in the past, about whether darker skinned dolls get less votes. It Always ends badly. always. Ā This is the Kimiversary, can we please not bring added drama to the forum.Ā

Nah thatās just plain racism. Not voting for someone because of their skin tone is racist. It shouldnāt be that way. My doll is probably considered racially ambiguous but I do try to express myself regardless of knowing I might not get votes. @LaLaLola Donāt let the haters bring your down, honey!Ā
And I donāt know if i agree with the statements of skin colour affecting votes. I use darker skin colours on my doll during sys and I get the regular amount of votes. š¤·š»āāļø (Pictured proof right above)

I realized dark skinned dolls get less votes too, but I donāt think people not vote for them consciously just because they are dark, I think it because this thing we have been taught ālighter the betterā which is obviously not true and people know that is not true, but those subconscious thoughts resurface when people are voting in literally like two seconds, you know in their reflexes, they donāt think, they just vote based on what they have been taught is more beautiful.

I have seen a lot of darker skinned dolls bringing in less votes than the lighter dolls with nearly identical outfits. And its definitely racial bias. Whether it is a conscious thought or not, it is not okay and it is worth being brought up.Ā There are studies done, like the 1947 Doll tests, which although it is outdated, is significant. When given options to chose either white or "colored" dolls (just painted because they didn't make dolls of color then), the majority of children chose white to play with. Even black children chose white. They were also asked which dolls were good or bad and the majority chose colored as bad and white as good, despite whatever color they themselves were.Ā It was represented again in CNN study trying to determine racial bias in children.(Link:Ā http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/05/13/expanded_results_methods_cnn.pdf) In this test, it still showed that the children favored lighter skin tones. Although the margin was smaller than previously tested in 1947, the bias still exists. Although this may not be perfectly indicative of what adults are seeing when playing this game, it is not a good idea to ignore the topic. Our own dolls are a great representation of this exact test, just done on a different forum. Of course, not every darker skinned doll is getting less points, but they are at a disadvantage as a whole in this game when it comes to SYS.
Anyways, this is a forum for this game discussion and from what I see, this conversation affects the game, especially if people want to use a doll that LOOKS like them and people continuously vote against them. That is ridiculous and sad to continue to see.Ā
@lafeedragee what you described is still racism. Also I refuse to be put in that āweāve been taughtā group, no matter how someone was raised, we should know better. And if people are voting the way you say then theyāre racist, plain and simple.
I love that we are able to discuss this topic openly - I disagree with any moderators trying to censor the forum by excluding open discussions of how voters are swayed by lighter skin vs darker skin. This is the discussion that matters. Especially when the Kardashian kids are all affected too - Iām sure if given the choice they would want to play with dolls that look like them in this game.Ā
@liltiffs Yeah, I think it's a subconscious thing. No one is actively voting for the lighter dolls and actively voting against the darker skinned dolls. I think most voters take a second to glance over the options and vote without actually taking a good long look to decide. I often find myself voting for a darker skinned doll and then realizing I should have chosen the other doll because they were actually dressed better. It's just a matter of preference, and some voters automatically prefer the pale doll with long, blonde hair and blue eyes. I'm pretty sure no one is acting maliciously when voting.
