Yes, it’s serious! I’m Italian and this situation is hurting me. I’m scared for my grandparents, I miss my loved ones and I don’t know when I’ll be able to hug them again. Look at this... it is scary. No panic, but it is serious.

Maybe Koko’s nurse said what she said bc she was trying to calm fears? Either way, nurses/doctors do have a responsibility to be honest while still not inducing panic.

I hope that's the case and maybe the way she phrased it wasn't the best. I'm just feeling pretty raw because I have a friend who's dad was just moved to hospice because of ongoing medical issues and they expect him to pass either later today or tomorrow. Someone at her workplace tested positive so she's in self-quarantine and cannot go see her dad to say goodbye. She can Facetime and talk on the phone, but it's just not the same and she's devastated. We've had multiple confirmed cases in the surrounding area this past week which is amazing because they're turning people away unless it's dire because there are no testing kits available! You basically have to be extremely sick and even then it's a fight for them to let you come in. I read that 14% of infected individuals in China didn't even show symptoms or got sick so the number of infected individuals is probably much higher than we realize. Our 10 confirmed cases could easily be hundreds if not thousands because people are still going out and it's business as usual for many.
That is so devastating for your friend and her dad. I am just so so sorry to hear that.

I can not know exactly what she meant, but she stated a percentage, but the hype I believe was the fact that toilet paper was the 1st thing to fly off the shelves.  She wasn't downplaying the illness.....look at her stringent controls to not spread among patients.....but the hype that has people fighting over toilet paper is wrong.  the media whipping us into a frenzy is wrong.  I have to believe that's what she said.  and perhaps trying to be reassuring with a statistic.
I'm sorry anyone took it wrong.  The ny media is working it for all it's worth.  In the wrong way.  Tell people how to stay safe, tell people to avoid crowds.....don't tell them they will be house cloistered and without toilet paper.

I cannot believe what it's like in the States. A woman at work told me yesterday her parents live in Arizona and believe that covid-19 is a Bernie Sanders hoax designed to bring socialism to America. it is horrific that the president has not only mismanaged the response to this outbreak but politicised it to this extent.

    Edit: wash ur damn hands
Lmao the fact that I’ve literally heard this too 😭People are.... so dumb. I live in Wisconsin (for my outside the US pals: a state thats best known for drinking) and the running joke is people saying they “aren’t worried until bars start closing” (even as schools are closed already & all events are cancelled & people are literally dying) but look at that, as of yesterday all bars are closed, can we please take it seriously now??

I think a lot of people are only worried about themselves and knowing they would be ~fine~ even if they caught it, but the real issue is spreading it to those who won’t be.
I don't think we are at that level of absurdity in France, people know it's real, they just don't behave accordingly (and now legally) but a lot of people agree that the government profits from coronavirus socially speaking: a lot of laws and reforms were challenged rby the people right before the quarantine, and now they can't Express their voices.

Regarding your last point: I agree with what you said, even if I chose to go back to my family, potentially putting people at risk during my train journey.
However, I know that I will be putting less people at risk if I'm here in the seaside versus if I had stayed in the city: less people around, better kitchen so I'm able to really plan and cook therefore going out less for groceries...
It is a debatable choice, between selfishness and selflessness, but in the end I think I balanced my concerns for my mental health and the health of others!

@grada my advice, would be to write back to tapjoy, enclose any proof you have about the offer, and ask them to explain.  Tapjoy is an indepent organization that handles the disbursement of rewards for the offers.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I always say....write them again and ask them to explain.  Sometimes persistance pays off, but they are the ones with the final say.  Good luck.

I almost lost my dad to a heart attack last year so hearing this news and thinking about my own family put me in a really poor mood this morning. He flat-lined twice in the ER so had my mom not forced him to go to the hospital I wouldn't have been able to say goodbye either. It just really, really sucks and I always try to be a positive person and make others feel good, but I was at a loss of what to say.

Okay, now the toilet paper pandemic I can get behind. Still cannot find any. I think we're in a second wave. The first wave was the hoarders, the second wave is the people becoming hoarders because of the first wave wiping out stock. We only go through 1-2 rolls per week in our house. What on earth do you think you need 80+ rolls for?? Even if you had a large family and went through 5 rolls per week, that's still 4 months worth of stock!!

@AguadeCoco reading your situation I believe you did too!! I’m glad you are home & safe ☺️ I meant everybody spring breaking with these extra weeks off of school or thinking they’re funny or brave for ignoring current regulations. In my town actually it’s huge drama that somebody got fired from their job for county mandated self quarantining after travel... the owner saying it’s not a big deal and he should’ve came in for his shift etc, as a COOK handling food...

@mikaylachimo 💕 yes, I understand exactly what you're saying! In France we did those "reckless" things to for a while, until the end of last week, because no one in the government said anything. But we only had the dreadful example of Italy, and now so many countries are serious so why not the United States? I hope it gets taken seriously soon, I can't imagine what it would be like if it spread as much as here in Europe...

I also did not mean to sound so brash in my reply. It's all good.

Everyone is just uncertain and on edge right now. It doesn't help that we're not getting the information in a timely manner. My state seems to be getting ahead of the curve so that's good. Our governor went so far as to close schools for the rest of the school year, which a lot of people are upset about but kids are germ magnets so it makes sense. It just seems like a lot of people are treating this as a bonus vacation instead of doing what they need to do.

There are over 2300 identified cases of covid-19 in New York State, there are not enough hospital or intensive care beds, more people are going to die if it's not taken seriously, please stay home as much as you can.

Here's a graphic showing how much worse covid-19 is than the flu, for your doctor's information.

I don’t get people who say that the Covid-19 is pretty much the same as Influenza virus (Flu). Covid-19 is much more contagious, it’s spreading easier, the death rate is higher because we still don’t have any vaccinations or antiviral medications. The biggest problem in these countries that are highly affected by the virus is that non of them has taken situation enough seriously from the very begging. The virus spread extremely fast, and a huge amount of people were very sick at the same time and they weren’t able to receive much needed medical attention due to the lack of hospital beds and symptomatic medications. That’s why I’m happy that the president of Serbia (where I live) has taken the situation very seriously. First case was diagnosed 2 weeks ago, and so far we have around 80 infected people (which isn’t that much compared to the other European countries) but we already have curfew (from 8pm to 5am), everything is shot down plus there are so much more rules now. I’m isolating myself and I think everyone should take this situation seriously and follow the rules so we can continue with our normal lives soon. I wish you everyone to stay safe and healthy, I’m praying for the world in these tough times 🙏🏼

I am done apologizing. And thank you, but I'm not telling my doctor anything.  I appreciate her intentions, and respect her.
I wish everyone good luck for the SYS tomorrow.
And, if you are one of the dolls who sent me a dm this afternoon, thank you.  You are lovely flowers in the garden of friendship. <3

I know everyone is scared, worried, and many other things! But I come here to get away from all the crazy in the world! Can we keep the theme threads off of covid and maybe open one for that or place it somewhere else - all my social media is flooded with it and I love just coming here to see people’s creativity and enjoy the friendships on here!  Praying for this all to get under control soon! But can we get back to what this thread is about and see some Inspos for tomorrow maybe!?!  ❤️

I don't want an apology, I want people to be prevented from posting misinformation about covid-19 on these forums and to take all sensible steps to prevent infection for themselves and others in real life
  • kokokokonutkokokokonut Moderators 29,091 Posts
It was decided in advance, that if members wanted to keep the pandemic out of the event threads, we could start a dedicated thread just for the Virus related posts.
Please use this thread for event discussion, and use the dedicated thread for Virus discussion.
ANd remember, emotions are running high.  Imagine the next person is at the end of their rope, lets be supportive.  thanks. <3

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I’m in desperate need of some good vibes right now.. my anxiety has been getting the best of me these past few weeks. I feel mentally and emotionally drained. Any tips on how to calm yourself down during anxiety/panic attacks?

Sending lots of love and prayers to every single one of you...❤️ I started a prayer list today! Trying to spread some positivity.. If you’d like to be added to it, please feel free to send me a message!🤗🥰💕

@keepingupwithkelsey my therapist recently suggested to search guided meditation for anxiety on YouTube. There aren't any specific ones I recommend but you can look into them and see if they help you. You can do them when you have an anxiety/panic attack and on a daily basis as well. I wish you well
