I know chicken is good for about 9 months in the freezer. The biggest thing is you need to properly store it so it doesn't get freezer burn which makes it go bad. When I went last weekend almost all the fresh meat was gone but there was a lot of frozen seafood, especially the vacuum packed fish which can last for almost a year so I picked up a big bag of that. That's at least a week's worth of meals when paired with a side.

I’m praying for Italy every night. As soon as they restock the grocery store all of the meat is gone. People line up for it. Maybe I’ll just be vegan for a bit.

I think steak can last like a year? Ground beef is bad in a few weeks though and that’s mainly what I buy.

I think it just comes down to mob mentality. People see others do it and think they need to do it too, not realizing how much food or other items they realistically need.

If you transfer it to a freezer safe bag, ground beef should last up to 4 months. If you are able to get ground beef/turkey that is sold frozen then it lasts even longer.

Yes, that and people feel a need to have control over their lives. Schools and jobs are closing and there’s nothing we can do about it. It is scary, but going out in crowds right now scares me more.

Hello everyone, I've been reading your comments and I can't believe there is people around saying this is not that bad. I know it's not as mortal as other virus but it is very contagious and painful, that's why everyone is supposed to be taking care.
I'm from Ecuador and at the beginning of this week all businesses were ordered to closed except for supermarkets or groceries stores and the pharmacies until a night clock that started at 9 PM around the country but in my city (with almost 199 cases confirmed until this morning) the night clock started at 4 PM yesterday and today at 2 pm and it's over at 5 am. This is going until the 5th day of April but the mayor said if it has to keep going it will... also the president prohibited domestic and international flights to leave or arrive so there is people from other countries stuck here, the mayor of my city also made a huge mistake by not letting planes arrive empty with the object of taking people from Spain and from Holland back to their countries. I like this mayor a lot but I know it must be horrible to be stuck in another country so I think she must have let the planes land and leave right away without anyone on the plane get out of it because that's what the worries of the mayor were to have more contagious people in the city but I don't see why not letting people go back home and if they're sick get treatment there because we don't have enough doctors for our own people so it's better for the country if people from other countries go back home and get treatment there if they're sick.
Everyone here is taking it very serious, there are memes and jokes online but almost everyone is staying home. There were people throwing parties the first day but now there are all calmed. I've seen in fb on memes pages videos of people here taking it as a joke too but all the videos I've seen are from places with very ignorant people and very small towns (I know my country and my people and I know what I'm saying when I say they are ignorant so please don't get offended with this word)
Over here the supermarkets are not fully empty, some stuff like salt and lighters are over but the most needed stuff are like meat, vegetables and toilet paper 🤣 are good enough. Some people have bought like crazy but not too many, and I saw it the other day, with a lot of toilet paper, meat and canned food and wearing gas mask like it was the apocalypse 🤣 I mean it's good to wear a mask but not one for gases.

Sorry for the long post, I do find very interesting reading how is everything in other countries.
Hope everyone is doing well and if your locked at home don't go crazy you can read a book or work out but please don't got out unless is really necessary.
    Have a nice quarantine ✌

In my country we’re in obligatory lockdown (hospitals, banks, drugstores and stores that sell necessity goods are still open), there’s a strict curfew and the Army is in the streets. The president has closed the borders, all flights haven been cancelled (except humanitarian flights I believe). We don’t have any deaths yet but there’s like 200 cases already so I feel like we’re just kinda waiting for the first one.

On the other hand, I feel awful for those who depend on their daily income (informal working is huge here) for a living, these past days they have been criticized for going out which I think is really unfair since those who do the criticizing are privileged people with very different lifestyles and opportunities.

Seriously jealous of all you in countries that are locking down or planning to. In US we have a bunch of "but muh freedom!!!" imbeciles who are only about themselves. I work with an office full of them and I am more stressed out than ever having to deal with them through this. News agencies making it worse with headlines saying it would be "unconstitutional" to lock us down, and other scare words, aren't helping.

Popped in here after being absent from the forum for a while, I really hope everyone is bearing up ok! These are scary times for many people, not helped by some of the selfish idiots stockpiling, sharing misinformation and spreading fear. So nice to see so many positive messages of kindness here!

I'm in London and I'm 27 weeks pregnant so am pretty much in lockdown. The UK government have said to distance for 12 weeks which means I won't be going back to my office before my maternity leave starts in June - as a control freak I am FREAKING out that I won't be able to do a proper handover before I leave my job for a year.

It also makes me so upset that I won't see any of my friends before my son is born and if the situation stays the same, it is likely we will keep him away from friends and family when he is born. I won't be able to have NCT classes or meet other local mums so feel worried I won't have that local support network that is so valuable.

Sorry for such a long, misery post! I'm trying to put a brave face on IRL because my husband is really worried and I manage a large team of people who are all really panicking so I'm trying to be a voice of reassurance for them. So don't feel I can offload my fears on people. It's nice to have an opportunity just to get it off my chest.
Stay strong everyone and keep the kindness going! Look after yourselves and those around you Xxx

I’ll definitely get some freezer bags. I feel dumb throwing food away. In my city we’ve closed all entertainment business but there’s no lockdown. I doubt the US will ever have a lockdown. If they had stopped all flights a month ago things would be so different. 😪

Here they've closed all restaurants and bars (curbside pickup or deliver only), gyms, movie theaters, casinos, and schools. Like Ali said, there are SO many people complaining about having nothing to do, wanting to go shop, etc. #fakevirus hashtag is very much a thing. I don't know what it's going to take for people to take this serious. I feel like a lot of Americans have this attitude of if it doesn't personally affect me I don't care.

Also, if anyone does buy fresh veggies and it looks like you're not going to use them in time, throw them in a freezer bag (make sure they're not rotten). Also collect any scraps from cooking and when you have a full bag let it boil and simmer on the stove in water for a couple hours, then strain and you've got yourself homemade veggie broth. Avoid broccoli and brussel sprouts, but pretty much anything else goes. Makes a great soup base or cook rice in it to give it some flavor.

I generally dislike when people pressure celebs into donating etc., but seeing these multi millionaires/billionaires preaching how sitting at home "is not that bad" is rubbing me the wrong way. Ofc it's not bad with your huge garden, pool, tennis court and god knows what. I'd live for that kind of quarantine too. Right now we could really use more celebs like Chiara Ferragni and Fedez who started GoFundMe to get more ICU beds in Italy and ofc they made a huge donation themselves.

So, while I'll appreciate kisses and wishing well, now it's time to be generous. Open your purse, Kimberly!
Many famous people are donating here just like Chiara and Fedez did - it’s great, even “normal people” are donating to hospitals! Also because coronavirus affects famous people as well, not only us. Therefore everyone is scared. I think I heard Tom Hanks got it...

I hope you're all safe! I just got email yesterday that one of our co-workers in sales department might be infected. She's not working with me but some people from her department are visiting our office and we all work in the same building. There's over 200 people working so I'm not sure what would happen to all of us... I'm having home office anyways and probably would until Easter.

My company was pressured into releasing a statement to the public of why we're still open and it's not going well. I don't know who runs our social media but RIP to them.

Anyone have any suggestions for insomnia? (besides taking melatonin, it rarely works for me and I get weirdly nervous about taking it) I’ve always had sleep issues mostly related to anxiety but with everything going on it’s been worse than usual... currently writing this post at 7:30am and I haven’t slept at all yet 😅

When I'm desperate I'll take melatonin but the usual 5mg dose doesn't cut it, so I usually take 2-3. Downside is it gives me crazy nightmares so I don't take it unless I absolutely have to. My sister swears by lavender spray on pillows but I'm not a huge lavender fan so I haven't tried it.

@soundspretty I actually have a lavender chamomile sleep spray for pillows and I like it! but usually it just makes me feel more relaxed, not necessarily sleepy

Camomile tea is one I used to take to really help me relax. Normally about 45 minutes before I went to bed.

@mikaylachimo try turning down the temperature in your house!  People sleep best between 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit, though it might sound rather chilly.  Also, not looking at a screen for an hour or so before trying to sleep (or even just turning off the blue light in the device).  Not getting into your bed right up until it's time to sleep  helps you body get to sleep easier when you lay down, as well.

I blame the government of Florida for that one. Yes, you're going to have dumb kids at spring break but they should have seen that coming and closed down restaurants/bars and hotels.
