Q regarding kudos/squad

I’m considering switching squads, but curious how it works. Will I lose the kudos I currently have(12/15)? Can I immediately switch or is there a waiting period to join a new one?
I give kudos every time the bar refills and I’ve only had 3 boxes and I see people posting that they’re on their 9+ box.
