multiplayer help

so is there any reason why I can't join multiplayer with my friends we both add each other both logged into Facebook and click on multiplayer and there is no option to join my friend he's siting right next to me and even then multilayer takes forever to even get a match. why can i not do gun bro with my bro? make any sense how about a lobby or something or join friend option.
