Masterful skill?

Ok, I have been saving my gems and finally have enough to get the masterful skill (100 gems).

What does this achieve and it must be worth it considering its value.

It is incredibly valuable and worth it. Right you you can only use 2 skills. This permanently lets all your characters use 3 skills unless you have the sorceress. The sorceress increases from 4 abilities to 5 so it isn't as valuable to the sorceress, but it is still very useful.
