Ballpark Upgrades

How exactly do the ballpark upgrades work? I’ve spent hundred on the game this year and much more last year. For some reason, it never occurred to me to just spend $100 and get 480 (or whatever it is) free gold every single day. 
Can you buy each level back to back?

Doesn’t quite work that way. One time purchase for $10. Spend 4,000 gold (not during fan rewards) and move to level 2 for 16 gold. To go from 80 to 160 a day it’s 200,000 gold spent not during fan rewards.

They made it more difficult this year by adding fan rewards when you jumped a level rather than just on weekends. I often spend heavily right after the reward for upgrading, so, my daily reward is lower this year. Still, IMO, on of the few things worth actually spending money on in this game. Wouldn't do it this late in the season, however.
