Totally confused

I got the region 9 update but it says 7/9 map pieces, you need to kill Goliath and Cronus in region 8. I am finished with region 8 except for 2 exotic series. Do we have to complete these? I never completed the exotics in the other regions to get to the next one.

    Yes you must complete the exotics. You can now buy them for HB's and Crystals.
