Roster Strategy?

Looking for the smartest way to use draft picks and buy players without spending money. I see some posts where people say to save up the picks and use all of them at once, and some posts where people hold on to all of their inactives instead of trading for #1 or first rounder. I have a few draft picks that I can use and enough inactives for a first round pick.

Currently in MVP with a mediocre roster and avoiding HOF because I have a feeling of what awaits me.

    I like tournaments. Started with about 2300 gold, played 6 tournaments, added 5 4-star SP and David Ortiz. At the end I had about 500 gold. Just buy yourself back into the tournament every time you lose. I did this during the player awards and got Victorino and Daniel Murphy too, plus I was able to trade inactives for a 1st rounder and got a reliever.

    You can do this with cash tournaments as well, I got Dee Gordon and Wilson Ramos like that.
