Some suggestions for the new legend playoff-offense

[Offense part]

Before we talk about how good the legend team pitcher is, I think we can spend some time to analyze how good they throw the breaking ball.

I draw some graphs to explain the track of some breaking ball which I see during legend playoff. They are all strike but the probability to get hits is different.

1. curve ball

The curve ball track is like the below picture.

The timing to hit curve ball is quite important because altitude of the ball will change when approaching the base. It is hard to get hits even if you contact the curve ball . It is important to be patient for the next pitch and skip curve ball.

2. Killer curve ball

Killer curve ball is the one which I will say “don’t swing”. The track is like the below picture.

This type of breaking will let you 100% out. It is one of the GLU pitching strategy to keep you from scoring.

    3. Cutter or two seam

The track for such kind of ball is really weird. The ball seems to speed up when it is near the base and the direction of the ball will change toward to the base. The track is like below picture.

    4. 12-6 curve
It is the major weapon of Kershaw. I didn’t find a good timing to swing for such breaking ball.
The track is like below picture. Please be aware that the red line in the track. The ball will fall vertically. There is almost 90% IF/OF pop out for such ball so I suggest to hold your finger and wait for next pitch.

    5. Slider

Don’t miss the slider. It is easier to get hits than any other breaking ball.

For legend starters, I have some record to share with u. My testing is that I will not swing and let the pitcher throw and calculate how often this pitcher throws different kind of breaking ball. Some of the numbers are rounded.

    Kershaw (9/9/9)
    28% slider
    42% 12-6 curve
    11% fast ball
19% other breaking ball or I don’t know which type of the ball is

    Sales (7/9/8)
    15% 2-seam
    22% slider
    28% fast
35% other breaking ball or I don’t know which type of the ball is

    Cueto (7/6/9)
    28% killer curve
    32% curve
    21% 2-seam or cutter
    3% fast ball
16% other breaking ball or I don’t know which type of the ball is

    Darvish (9/4/8)
    43% 2-steam or cutter
    30% fast ball
27% other breaking ball or I don’t know which type of the ball is

    Bumgarner (7/9/8)
I am still collecting this pitcher’s statics. Not hard to defeat him. He throws almost 30% fast ball.

I don’t have the hits/out ratio for different kind of breaking ball. The tests are not enough to convince other people but I can write down some numbers which I record for your reference.

[Hits ratio for different kind of breaking ball] Note:All batter’s HITs are 9. The STF attribute of the pitchers is between 8 and 9.

    2-seam and cutter:20~30%
    killer curve:0%
    curve: nearly 10%
    slider: 20%
    12-6 curve: smaller than 5%

For fast ball HITs ratio, I think it is near 70% but depends on hidden morale setting.

For the legend playoff, I suggest to seize the chance when you face Bumgarner, Sales and Darvish. Don’t give up these three games and try to do ur best.

For Cueto, his major weapon is curve ball and throws almost 90% curve ball in the entire game. My strategy is to send a LH starter to let legend team blow this LH starter and then I can use autoplay to blow Cueto back. After the LH is tired, I will replace the LH starter with other RH reliever. I don’t have good batting average when facing Cueto so this is how I deal with him.

The legend playoff is hard to win. Congratulations to the people who has won the series. Hope this article help the people who wants to attend the legend playoff series.

Wow great analysis and breakdown. Thanks. It definatley helps to know how often they are throwing these types of pitches.

Kershaw will rely on his fastball alot once you start hitting him. I have found many different times if I get 2 hits to start an inning that he will groove a fastball down the middle to every hitter. It may not be on the first or 2nd pitch (usually *****) but it will come. Of all the pitchers, even though he is the best, he is the easiest for me to hit.

Thank you, very nicely done! A well thought out analysis that is spot on. I have beaten Legends only once, and lost 4-3 several times. For me Cueto and Sales are the hardest to hit. I seldom lose to Kershaw, unless they spot him a ridiculous lead before I even get to bat. Bumgarner is also fairly easy to beat.

in my opinion, the pitchers change their tendencies with runners on base. Like Redbird said, Kershaw throws more fast***** with runners on.

Nice scouting report. It's hard to win when you are chasing 10-15 runs before the 6th inning. First time through was easy. This second trip is impossible.

Terrific analysis. Thank you! But what is this "hidden morale setting"? Does it exist? How do you know?

This is just an assumption for playing against computer.
I think you have found that if you score some runs and take the lead from the first inning.
Computer seems to have a hard time to score for the next several innings.
So I use the legend playoff to collect some statics to see if my team take the lead from the first inning, how the computer team will do for 2~4 inning.
I only collect results from 10 games.

    2nd inning:
    legend team score none: 8
    legend team score >=1: 2

    3rd inning:
    legend team score none:5
    legend team score >=1: 5

    4th inning:
    legend team score none:1
    legend team score >=1 :9

According to the statics, it seems that computer have a hard time to score for 2 and 3 inning and players can use this chance to score more and beat legend team.

For playing against human, the statics I collected are randomized.
I think it is because human is better than computer. LOL

Thanks for asking. You are the first one who notice this point in my article.

This was the thread that was so helpful for beating the Legends. Jemic the data you collected for this was unbelievably helpful and anyone playing the Legends should give it a read.

Thank you for collecting this data

first time through? Do you beat Legends, then move on to GOAT, complete that and restart the game completely over? Or....details requested please

Sadly, once you have beaten the legends, you get the reward and start all over in the Legends division with 0/75 wins. Outside of the draft picks and gold, you don't get any identifier for beating them and there isn't a GOAT that I'm aware of. I think some sort of identifier for winning should be patched in the game personally.

Win 75 and play them again. Continuous cycle I assume. I have beaten them 2x and going for #3 (why, I don't know lol).

As far as the OP's information, AWESOME breakdown and thank you for taking the time to share. I wish I had this info the first time I competed against them.
