**** go for it. You are almost guaranteed to get a better player than any you have with a #1 draft pick. You won't need gold for upgrades until all of your upgrades reach 6 anyway.

Go with 3 1st rounders. They should help. You need some upgrades.

i highly recommend saving your gold. you can improve your team just by playing games and getting late and second round draft picks as rewards. spend some of the blue cash on second rounders (not too many) as well until your whole team is 3+ stars. late round isn't worth it so don't bother there. get on the leader as much as you can to make more cash and spend it on upgrades. as you level up eventually you can join leagues that give out first round and #1 draft picks without spending any gold. plus blue ring leagues are cheap. save those up and i can't remember which level, but they eventually become just as good as #1 draft picks. and again, no spending gold is necessary for that.

i know it's annoying early in the game when you don't have great players but trust me, it gets way easier to get good players later and you will need gold for upgrade levels 6-9, cash won't be an option. Gold is really hard to come by once you finish all your achievements.

I concentrated on upgrading my pitching and defense with the "cash" I'd get. Those went a long way for me when I first started since you don't have a lot of control over them. So upgrading them seemed to help even my lower star pitchers. In the meantime use the "get free gold" option every day and stock pile your gold for a while. Also, don't rush to level up. Stay in the lower tiers for a while until you are able to upgrade everything. It's easier to get gold and cash in the lower levels. Also, play the tournaments and leagues. They are cheaper at the lower levels and you can pick up some decent players or rings for elite drafts. Good luck!
