I find it crazy to ask, but even after an ATG bump to 530, it still begs the question - is Mantle even worth the hassle of upgrading now that guys like Holiday Ted et al. are out? ATG takes more resources to level and the Mantle EVO looks nightmare-ish. Do I have to buy a mountain of gold just to get the evo for Mantle?
Personally, I'm in no rush but having a switch hitter is a nice option in my opinion. I'm sure he's solid for the other events and a great guy to tuck in the middle of the lineup with that crazy power number, but what does everyone think? I've already heard the horror stories about Mantle not being WOH worthy at 5-10... I'll probably wait until we see if he transitions to TSP 19...

I was probably less than 10% with the 80 gold boost against Marichal with Mantle this week. When I switched to a 490 max boosted Edwin E with double late innings skill, my success rose closer to about 30%.
The cold reality of WOH is that you need a plus hitter, 2 active skills, and a boost to be able to be even remotely consistent on 5-10, and the bar gets higher each week as the players get better.
Even though he’s eclipsed on 5-10 in some scenarios. I used him on Langston and never lost. Plus all the times he’s dominated 5-10 when it’s a lefty.
I rarely see most of these anymore, but the ones that I do are seldom active in WOH or CvsC.
So that leaves late innings, WOH, CvsC, lefty, righty, and RISP as worth investing in. I prefer not to use RISP skilled players in 5-10 as they are not active from the beginning and there's really no way to prove they ever become active. I have a LL Votto with RISP and vs. RHP that I do like for 5-9.
Some guys will almost always have one boost active but not the second. They are basically your jack of all trades/master of none. Good for your low to mid levels of WOH and you can plug them in to your CvsC lineup without worrying about them being a liability. Not ideal for 5-9 or higher.
Double late innings are perfect for any pitcher in WOH, but downgrade big in CvsC. Likewise for double CvsC in WOH. Double handedness skill, particularly vs. RHP, is useful in either with the right matchup which is why I've wanted the LL Trout so badly.
Strategy is becoming more and more of a thing in this game rather than just putting out your 9 best guys and plugging away. It shouldn't be unusual these days to change your lineup regularly depending on the event.
I think the only real advantage of ATGs is that they never become obsolete. We all have guys that were our studs 3 months ago and consider them trash now, but ATGs always get the bump to the top and thus will always be among your best.
With that said if I ever get another ATG I'll be leveling them up to Bronze 10 and immediately trading them in with no hesitation.
Just hoping my guys port over to TSP 19 or I’m done building anyway.
When you trade in a ATG, you get their type of EVO, equivalent to whatever their overall rating is.
If you never plan to go higher than gold, it doesn't really matter, but bringing them up to Bronze 10 first obviously gives you that much more EVO.
The trick is, for it to ever matter, you have to get them a second time. But if you do, you already have as much of their EVO to level them up as you need, without needing to spend gold on all of their EVO boxes.
