I think if you factor in cost of the keepers (unless something changes) in terms of upgrading skills and being able to use them past silver, and also the base ratings; ATGs seem pretty appealing to keep right now.
The way I try and justify the 5X cost of leveling keepers (batters only) is that all season long we get new batters and level them up to make cycling WOH easier. The way the game is set-up of course in less than 10 days those batters may not be the best WOH 5.9 & 5.10 batters with higher max batters coming out. With keepers at least there is a hope of them always being near the top so we wouldn't need to keep replacing them as often as the 19 version batters. When you factor all other batters that you don't need to max because of the keepers then the cost would be that much less.
Of course maybe I shouldn't have posted this as one of the GLU devs may be browsing this thread and uttering "HOLD MY BEER"!!!!

Long story short, you can actually put all your marbles in the the keeper jar instead of continuing to have marbles in a new jar at every drop of a new player. I feel like the resources will equal out since we won’t be wasting them on an updated releases every week...That’s if Glu actually allows the keepers to keep up with the game and their ratings keep climbing!
I feel that the keepers should help us with WOH initially. If their ratings rise with the same progression as the new players released every week or so, they will stay relevant. They will never be bonus players, so people will still need to get new players from boxes if they want to put up club points.

This is probably the best conclusion I've read regarding keepers cost not being all that crazy. So definitively if they actually stay at the top of the players pool in 19 (without any craziness from Glu releasing 600 max players), even the cost of the skills up to 11%+ could be worth it. Not from the beginning, of course but as the time progresses and we start pilling up resources.
I may be considered a contrarian on this whole keeper thing but I don’t think we need to get ourselves too tied up in knots over it. They will give a boost to our teams in the early days but I don’t think they will necessarily continue to be the most important players in our rosters. In 18 atgs were often left behind as new versions of hitters were released, or at least quite comparable alternatives. There will be new atgs released in 19 and there will be tons of new powerful hitters released throughout the season. We all know this. They have stated keeper atgs will not have their maxes raised above the current 550. Maybe that means 19 atgs and other hitters will eventually have maxes higher than 550 but how far will they go? So, I’ve stated the obvious in many ways and having the discussion is fun but I wouldn’t get too caught up in it. Im gonna wait until the official release then pick my top players, which will be influenced by their numbers, their position and whether they’re a favourite. Then the week after I’ve made those choices, Glu will release new 575 maxes lol.

Imperative if you have one. Only be superseded by a 550 with desired skills like Miami muto.

Amen....No reason to put all the emphasis on 2 hitters and a pitcher. It’s going to be all about grinding out to build our new teams and praying for luck in the boxes! Everything ends up benefiting Glu profits one way or another so I’m not going to bet it all on keepers! Especially since all the top players are so watered down now anyways with Glu having specials to buy 540 overalls. Money, money, money....Just take your fav players and high rated guys that have killed for you this year 🙌🏼
Solid weekend boxes tho. I picked up Alen Hanson 2B switch hitter from a box and has me thinking I may just take him and Mickey ATG over.....Then create a switch hitting catcher and call it a day in 19.
Lowrie has performed decently enough for me vs both R and L pitchers. I have him in gold 10 with skills at 15/15 and he gets the job done like 40%-50% of the time
I have Lowrie’s skills at 15/15, maxed pennants, and he cannot beat 5.10. 5.9 is hit or miss.
It is annoying because I used most of my remaining resources to level him, and then pulled Shawn Green the next week. Green would probably be the righty killer I’ve been waiting for, but I have no resources for him.
JT is a killer except for that rhp skill.....anyone’s guess how goood he will be vs rhp as opposed to a true lhb with double skills like teddy snowflake, 530 Boggs, 535 Harper or whoever they release this final week. As an awesome combination, two birds worth one stone player he’s the man.....for best option against 5.10 rhp not sure.
After all of this reading and plenty of good input I am taking Mays and Shawn green along with don Gibson. I created a switch hitting Catcher in 18 and he had the second most at bats on my team so I will create the same in 19. This should get me past WOH and on to a better team. Also I’ve had pretty good success with Jed and when i was bored I would use him in 5-10 instead of green.
This guy should be good keeper material for rhp? To bad I already did my keepers. Rrrr I hope glu lets us test subjects(guinniepigs) have a chance to swap keepers when they release to all!! After all we did have to do it so glu could fix the bugs for the rest of y’all.
@whammo911 Yup. This is why I came to the same conclusion as @Bigpredfan. They will be monsters in bronze and silver, but beyond that? I don't see it as being practical. Depending on how plentiful bxp is, maybe gold, but definitely not beyond that.
Most likely will not be opportunities for free leveling on them either via re-pull with them being 2018 players.
I think the design is for them to give you a nice boost to begin and then eventually have your keepers be obsolete in favor of all 2019 players
Absolutely agree. They won't be dominating, you will spend 5 times as much to level them, then have nothing when you pull a stronger player, hence creating a need to purchase xp, evo, etc. to strengthen the new player. This being where you realize that those keepers just got you. yes, I realize they will be a plus in WOH, which should produce the kind of players you are actually looking for to replace the keepers, but its a double edge sword to cap 1 player with the amount of resources it takes to cap 5. some will jump out with their keepers and start dominating, and others will find that holding back and making calculated decisions on how far to go with the keepers will put them in a much better spot for getting their 19 players in position and capped. I plan to hang out in bronze for a minute while I see how the players roll out. I'll probably opt out on my ATG's, as they are outfielders, and take the new Realmuto, Altuve, and Whitey Ford (unless I pull a monster relief pitcher). a relief pitcher, catcher and second base were the hardest to fill with Premium quality players.

I'm wondering the same thing. Since jt realmuto is a higher base and hit/power combo compared to Holiday Ted I think he would still dominate right handed pitchers in WOH. But, don't know if he is better than Green or Prime Harper. I anticipate final weekend to have a 550 double skill lhb WOH specialist..
Open to ideas for keepers: C Molina - R - WOH and RISP 515 Max 1B Votta - L - RISP and RHP 510 Max 2B Harrison sucks 3B Machado - R - Blowout and RISP - 525 Max SS Simmons - R - RHP and WOH - 515 Max LF Blackmon - L - CvC and CvC - 515 Max CF Jackson - L - WOH and RISP - 510 Max RF Harper - L RHP and CvC - 520 Max DH 1B Goldschmidt - R - LHP and Late Innings - 520 Max Sub 3B Schmidt - R - WOH and LHP - 510 Max
Unless I get something good these next two weeks, I'm leaning towards keeping my R Schmidt (LHP, WOH) and my L Harper (RHP, CvC - ouch). I don't see a combo of skills I like more for WOH then maybe Goldschmidt (Late Innings and LHP) but to me 3B>1B. In '18 I struggled with getting good 3B, C and 2B. I'm leaning towards a Switch-hitting Catcher MyPro with RHP skill in '19. Sucks to leave behind 525 Machado, 510 Votto (my MVP and a guy who has completed 5.10 for me) and 510 Molina though. For pitcher, it's easily 530 Hot Stuff Seaver (SP with RISP and RHP). My biggest hope is that they increase the cap on your Pro beyond 330 as time passes, but knowing Glu ...
@PhillyPhan87 On that list, I'd definitely take Molina and maybe Votto. Hopefully, you get someone that's highly rated and with two active skills for WoH in the next couple of weeks. It'll make WoH much less frustrating.

@JEDDDOGGY Glu has said that keepers will have a still image instead of the animated one in ‘19
