Over the course of the last five years, Racing Rivals has grown into one of the most hardcore racing games in the world. This loyal community has spent countless hours competing in millions of races in “winner take all” fashion – all in the name of Turf Wars and pink slips.

However, all good things must come to an end… After spending time evaluating Rivals and its future – we’ve decided that it’s time to move on. Simply put, the revenue generated from Racing Rivals unfortunately no longer covers the cost of operations. This was not an easy decision to make.

On March 31st, 2019 – Rivals will be racing off into the sunset, and will be permanently shut down. Current players have until this date to utilize any accumulated virtual currency. We’ll be offering some massive reductions in the cost of crates, installs and repairs in addition to a reduction on timers as you race your way into the history books. Effective immediately, no new in-app purchases will be permitted.

In closing, a resounding and sincere THANK YOU to our extremely driven fans for your loyalty and dedication over the years – we hope you’ve enjoyed playing Racing Rivals as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.

Light Laggers

Hey all.

I keep seeing a lot of comments/posts/death threats about "Light Laggers" so I wanted to talk about it for a sec.

Once we first started seeing complaints about this, we immediately started investigating. What we found was unfortunately that what looks to be happening is players taking advantage of device functionality. This means what is most likely causing it is through the device, and not the game itself.

This also goes back to an issue we had awhile ago. We used to disqualify players that disconnected from the game for a length of time. This of course also punished players whose devices/ISP/Connection caused a temporary disconnect. We were unable to 100% tell the difference between someone disconnecting their device on purpose or due to technical difficulties, so due to player demand we changed these to a tie result.

The same thing is happening before a launch. There is a disconnect. Again, we are unable to tell 100% if its on purpose or due to technical difficulties. This also happens before any race takes place so it can't be a tie. For everyone's benefit, we give players a chance to reconnect.

The issue with Light Lagging, is really that the game is waiting for a player to reconnect if somehow disconnected. This caught the opponent off guard. However, like disqualifications, we can't automatically assume the other player is attempting to "lag" the start of the race so we let the race continue once the player reconnects. The start of the race was abrupt. So realizing we couldn't change how a device works, we gave the opponent a warning. Once the other player reconnects, there is a countdown to prepare for the race.

Once that was implemented, we found that players had difficulty with their rev before the race. So we also added a delay after the countdown to allow the player the chance to rev before the light goes green.

could you put in an option to not race when the lag starts. because we feel as though they are cheating to catch you off guard and can hold the light as long as they want. if we can stop the race it would help, especially in pinks racing

Because that's the same kind of issue we had before. We can't tell if its on purpose or due to the device. The device most of the times reconnects. So we would also be punishing players who aren't at fault. Which is what our previous DQ did.

We're tried to alleviate the issue with a alert saying the race is about to start with a countdown and with increased delayto allow revving.

I see the same thing. A lot of racers will let everyone know via the chat that there is a light lagger in the room and who it is. Love those peeps!

Ryyst, all you have to do is simply stop the race when a connection error occurs. nobody loses and Pink are auto disabled when a disconnection happens. Why does it have to sound so complicated?

Simply stop the race, bets and everything and cancel the race, it can't be that hard, to simply stop the problem, before it starts

Fine, give people the benefit of the doubt, though cone and turf for 50k and see how nany times it happens to you during pinks.

Also after tge lag, the lights count down faster than normal it seems, because i can perfect launch almost always, rxcept this case. Maybe tgats in my mind

Its very dimpke, as soon as it happens disqualify all betting for that race. Id rather you er on side of caution than to continuously get scammed out of my hard earned items

I can see the flood of tickets now..."What's going on? Every time I try to race, it stops the race!" Nevermind the person not stating that they are on crappy cell phone signal - which, if crazyjr's idea is implemented, would be the cause.....

The point is , people exploit the system for personal gain. Yes some are legit problems, but by cancelling the whole race, it stops the exploiters.

i do agree with you, I have tried to play this game on a very crappy tablet. If you want to play the game, you need the proper tool to play it.

As i said, at least the exploiters will be shut down. Not doing anything, is screwing players out of cars. Not doing anything could leave them open for a lawsuit, due to lack of proper security for an exploit. I'm no law expert, but companies have to provide, some sort of protections.

I agree on the catch 22, but the current approach, only helps the light laggers. Which are the cheaters, stopping all activity and cancelling the bet would fix this.

i personally do not pink, be it turf/showdown or public lobby, for this exact reason. Glu will not support, the good players and endorses exploiters. So they lose a lot of business that way. I accept the piggybackers, though i report them in chat. But using an exploit with proof (IE chat evidence), should result in a ban. But it does not
