What's with the "levels" and bows?

I get you need better sniper rifles to take on harder and more distant enemies. But the bow to finish off the last 10-15 levels is 2600 gold bars. That's $$$$.

Isn't there another way to earn one, like good scores on then Advanced Weapons section?
