Cannot connect to iphone Game Center

I'm struggling to see how to link the game with my iphone Game Center, i get this error message when I load up the app:
"Game Center sign in failed. We recommend signing in with game center to save your progress in the event your device is lost or stolen."
And I can't find anywhere in the game or player settings to sign in with Game Center, am I missing something obvious here?
I was tempted to delete and re-install the app but I'm afraid to lose all my progress if I do that.
