Character Leader Abilities

So, I'm working on getting 2 characters (Shan Yu and Ariel) to level 25 and tier 4 for their leadership abilities (8% speed & 8% health).
Does the leader need to be in specific space/place in the team for the leader ability to function? 
If not, can you have more than one leader/ability active on the same team at the same time? (Can you get BOTH the speed and health bonus?)

    OK, now that I have both players up to tier 4, I can see that there is a check box in front of both characters... allowing you to pick which leadership ability you'd prefer to use. Easy system... once you're allowed to see the check boxes exist.

    Yeah that's right. Only 1 leader ability per team. I think those Leader Abilities are somewhat weak, but still something to add.
