Friends wont update

So like the Title says.
My friends list won't update on my iPad, the friend I am trying to get on my iPad is my girlfriend but she plays on the Kindle edition of the game. Does that mean that I can't gift her or co-star with her?
It's really annoying me.. I am connected to Facebook and if I try to invite her it wont work, like, I can't find her on the list but she can invite me.
