I just won the season with 6 gold10 players and the rest silver. Also not even 1 upgrade fully capped. So it can be done. I capped my acesnd use wraps, used a franchise player and gold boost. I spent 200 gold but the rewards are worth it. I also put scrubs in as subs, 3 relief pitchers and 3 starting pitchers to lower my team strength
