PoTW & PoTM players

If you pull one of these players then they get another PoTW or PoTM card do their stats increase to the highest version of the card? 

Just wondering since these cards are expensive and I’ve seen a bunch of duplicate players. 
I am Cornholio, I need TP for my bunghole

    POTWs will recycle to the newest version if they win the award again.  POTMs do not.
