Meh. I haven't cared about the All-Star game since middle school. I feel like this is the most meaningless event in sports and doesn't really even give everyone a rest like it should. Should just be a designation at end of season voted on by peers. Can't leave it up to fans or writers to get this stuff right as it could matter down the road in arbitration hearings for some guys.

Yeah I don’t care too awful much for the game itself, but supposedly we should expect some sort of epic box. I’ve been saving all my gold and xp for it.

Pete Alonso and his 26 dingers not getting a mention? Must be that rookie snub business. Or more people than Chase Utley hate the Mets. Who knows.

Peers who focus on their own games or have personal grudges and biases for and against other peers?

No matter how you slice it, it's a subjective vote by a flawed group. Writers who cover the league or fans who follow it have as reasonable a purpose in voting as anyone else does. Add in the massive marketing campaigns teams run for their own players as well as a runoff voting, it's hard to say anyone really gets screwed. Even then, you hear stories about teams honoring any bonus they might have received if they came close.

It's supposed to be a game for the fans anyway. Taking it more seriously than that is the issue, not the game itself. I think it's fun to see the players clowning around with each other, not having to compete seriously.

Well, I would rather see this re-hashed.

And for you WoH with Mantle & Mays keepers, Mickey likes going right-handed and Mays doesn't care facing lefty or righty, he can hit them both! From the horse's mouth...

I think the polar bear is more left off due to the position he plays. Who are you taking off at NL 1b to put him in the top 3?
    Alonso:    WAR 3.5 HR 27 BA .276 RBI 61 OBP .366 SLG .642 OPS 1.008 OPS+ 166
    Bell:         WAR 2.7 HR 20 BA .315 RBI 66 OBP .386 SLG .640 OPS 1.026 OPS+ 165
    Freeman: WAR 3.1 HR 21 BA .316 RBI 61 OBP .404 SLG .605 OPS 1.009 OPS+ 155
    Rizzo:      WAR 2.1 HR 19 BA .276 RBI 54 OBP .387 SLG .541 OPS .928 OPS+ 137

I am a Mets fan and as badly as I wanted Pete in the final three I don't feel he got snubbed.

I'm certainly not advocating for the All Star game, because I usually don't watch the whole thing either.  That said, the baseball All Star game is miles better than the NBA, NHL and especially the NFL versions of the same game.  Baseball has the benefit of not being a full contact sport (most of the time).  So the style played in the Midsummer Classic looks reasonably like real baseball, albeit with way more pitching changes and more mid-game batter substitutions.  In the other professional leagues, the utter lack of defense and the desire to avoid physical contact/injury absolutely ruins the quality of the game.

@dustyhunks Here is how he ranks of the 4:
    WAR - 1
    HR - 1
    BA - T3
    RBI - T2
    OBP - 4
    SLG - 1
    OPS - 3
    OPS+ - 1
So as always... depends what stat you value

How long were the all star boxes out last year? I’m gonna be out of town without service all next week, but want to get some of these guys since they were so good last year

@KSMETS WAR and OPS or OPS+ is what I would gauge it on. Glad Bell is getting recognition but I think Alonso should be present too.

A one time purchase of the All Star of your choice for 29.99 would be sweet.
  • HaraycarayHaraycaray Registered Users, Member 910 Posts
Last year they also did POTM boxes 2/20 with 50% odds but that seems to have gone away so I hope they offer 2/20 on all star boxes again

These boxes were very fun last year.  However the game this year is looking completely different so it will be interesting to see how things compare.

This time last year I think we had legend Jim Edmonds no?

My first Prime player last year was a regular Prime Pujols at 408 and that was mid June if I’m not mistaken. I got him from a free Prime Draft Pick, so I’m sure they were already out by this time last year as well.
  • UltimateWarriorUltimateWarrior Registered Users, Member 543 Posts
Also you have to remember we only had 1skill players and most primes had no skills

Something to think about. A lot of the players that were for sale as pop-ups (before the specials tab was created) were advertised as all-star candidates or something to that nature. It was built up to it last year, where I don’t believe I have seen any mention of it in the 2019 version yet

Looking for a 2B and 3B to replace Chavis and Devers POTM. I do have hot hitter Dietrich but I’d like a 5th Albies to complete the set.

It’s crazy with all these multiple players I wish they would adopt the Madden method you can trade in players for a better player. @KevoTheGiant

Wasn’t that just trading in players for draft picks in 2016?  I haven’t thought about that in forever

@KevoTheGiant @UltimateWarrior certain players could be compiled to trade in for one set player or for picks. You could trade in players for other picks but they also had free agents you could sign.
  • UltimateWarriorUltimateWarrior Registered Users, Member 543 Posts
They definitely need to bring that back. I Do remember the free agents vaguely. That and you use to be able to buy bundles of players for a certain amount of gold like 3Braves for 3500 gold or something almond those lines @KevoTheGiant @Cooz19
