Some really basic questions from a Baseball noob

Hey guys,
Really enjoying this game but some of the baseball stuff I just don't know! Never played it, never watched it (Scotland here!).
So prepare for some noobish questions! Any help appreciated 
- I have been trying to hit every ball, is this wrong?
- what constitutes a foul ball over a fair ball, and does it still count against your 3 count?
- should I just be going for one base most of the time, and only very occasionally two bases?
- does it matter where my batting reticule is to start with? Like if I pull it to the left, and then it moves towards the ball and I hit it, is this any different than if I had started with it pulled to the right?
- when/how often should you switch your pitcher?
Urgh lots of questions! Any help on any of them will be appreciated - thank you
