  • Since the 22.5% WOH boxes were released I've gone 136 for 606, which is 22.4%. I've had some amazing days, some terrible ones and more infuriating than anything, when trying to box cap a player my pull rate has been 20.1% vs 24.6% when I'm not. It all comes out in the wash - I believe in the stated odds.
  • In WOH I always swing on the first pitch regardless of pitch type and try to hit it to the opposite field. There are definitely hitable curves - the ones right down the middle of the plate - but if it cuts across an edge, then its a pre-determined out and I just take the next two pitches and move on.
  • Another thing to consider for guys who don't have an elite closer - on Monday I was unable to hit a HR off of Whitey Ford at 5.10, which means that unless Glu changes the starting situation to bases empty, gift Hank should be lights out in WOH (until the next bump) because his skills will always be active.
  • I agree with the WOH comments above. From a numbers perspective, my custom legend with double first pitch has a higher OPS than comparable guys with the following skill sets (RHP/RHP, RHP/hot, hot/hot, hot/blowout). If Glu ever releases an ATG with double first pitch, that should be your keeper IMO.
  • I've got six so far - three from box pulls (Mathewson, Gehrig, Cobb), two from cash purchases (Ruth pitcher, Rivera), and one custom. Oddly enough the three box pulls have all come from the low cost boxes, Mathewson/Gehrig on the 400 Monday boxes and Cobb on the 250 weekend boxes. These suckers are difficult to pull!
  • @retirepujols - sorry man, I stole your luck this weekend. I went 8 for 25 - after starting him at D4, I had a net gain of 124K LXP (including leveling to D4 and skill costs). WOH is pretty boring, but the value can be simply awesome if the box pulls are good - gain 124K LXP and walk away with a D10 stud? Sign me up!
  • See the repull optimizer tab to play with different variables - this excludes the 112,500 LXP in cycling rewards and the expected value of 2,275 per WOH reward box (x25). If you have a 60% discount and plan to do 25 cycles, I'd recommend starting around D4 and hope to get hot. I'm doing a D4 cycle cap myself today.
  • @baseball2020 - thanks! that narrative makes sense - I'd like to think that such a voting travesty would be impossible in modern baseball.
  • I spent some time nerding out on Yogi's career. Are there any stat heads out there that can rationalize why Yogi won the 1955 AL MVP award? It appears to have been a down year for him - he was 10th in OPS+ and 9th in WAR. Meanwhile Mantle led the league in 3Bs, HRs, BBs, OBP, SLG%, OPS, OPS+ and WAR - finished 5th in the…
  • What skill set would everyone want to see on Yogi to make him a must have? My vote would be for either double 1st pitch (elite for WOH and BGs/tournies) or double hot. If he gets released with RISP (a la Jackie), I may not play for the next week ;o)
  • @retirepujols - I like that PXP for balls (to cash to BGs/tournies to gold) swap idea. The VIP forum guys have been urging Glu to release living legends for quite awhile now - I'm not sure whether it'll happen or not, but I'm going to hold on to that hope for awhile longer. A month or so from now I'll burn through all my…
  • Another under-appreciated element of WOH this year is the ability to stack PXP - I'm sitting on about 9.6M right now ;o) As an example for diamond players, if you levelled Nimmo to G10 and then completed 24 more cycles (insane, I know), you'd have a net PXP gain of about 287K and would walk away with a D10 prime for points…
  • @drsmartassphd - thanks man, I'm a Excel nerd. Leveling players correctly and maximizing the value of your repulls is probably the most important aspect of the game to master at plat/diamond in order to save money.
  • I'm excited to hear that a bunch of guys are moving up! A lot of players seem dissatisfied with WOH, but for anyone who is making a level jump to plat/diamond - while the WOH reward players may be mediocre, they are nearly free to obtain and super cheap to level (because of repulls). I think WOH is still hands down the…
  • The attached file may be helpful. On the "Leveling Costs" tab, just fill-in the tan inputs section (player type, current level, target level and discount %) and it'll spit out the resource costs. The "Repull Optimizer" is helpful in deciding how high to level a player to optimize your XP return - this is particularly…
  • WOH is my jam, so I gotta have that Cobb! He'd also be a lock as one of my keepers for next year. The weekend box odds are garbage, so I'm going to wait until after Christmas to chase him. I also have no interest in Honus, so I'd hate to chase now and get him as a consolation prize. Maybe I'll luck into Cobb before this,…
  • Just to clarify the above - the 0.075% is accurate, but someone pointed out that that equates to 1 in 1,133 rather than 1 in 1,333,333 - SMH
  • This won't make you feel better, but just to put your day in context - the probability of hitting on one or less of those boxes in 38 tries is 0.075% or about 1 in 1,333 - so congrats you were likely the unluckiest player in the whole community today. We've made the pity timer suggestion several times and will continue to…
  • @cb11 - sorry man, that's just awful luck. I once went 4 for 29 and was pretty ticked off. I think a reasonable alternative to getting the player after a set increment could be to have a pity timer on the WOH reward box - let's say every 4 cycles. This would allow some element of luck to continue to exist but would set a…
  • @drsmartassphd - how would you feel about the following format - team building, skills and math continue to be the key driver of outcomes, but instead of impacting whether the pitches you see are hittable, they widen the range of the zones that will result in a hit. I'm envisioning something like bash where there are…
  • @Houmy - RISP is not a quality skill for WOH, so I would immediately cross Griffey, Davis and Carter off your list. Between Porter and Kruk, neither would be ideal for 5.10 because they don't start with two skills turned on, but because you'll have your custom for 5.10, IMO Kruk would be the wiser move because he'd be…
  • I had the pleasure of attending the VIP council event as well and was very happy with the Glu team's attention to detail and willingness to make player favorable changes. In addition to the issues already discussed, below are a few others that come to mind: * Pitcher arm rating - we reminded Glu that a pitcher's arm rating…
  • This year's VIP council consisted of 16 members, which was a larger number than last year due to the remote nature of the event. The members were all chosen by Glu, with several being carryovers from the prior year. The selection criteria are a bit of a mystery, but I would assume that time spent in-game and making…
  • At the VIP council event we discussed the final weekend CVC timing issue with Glu. The discount accolade is tethered to the event start/stop times, so they are unable to extend the timing on that, but they were amenable to changing that final CVC round to end one hour before the event ends, so that the discount accolade is…
  • Last week's Judge box was rough - 0.5% odds at 500 gold a pop. Irvin is a total bargain compared to Judge. I got lucky and nabbed Irvin via EB but definitely waiting until the weekend to level him.
  • I have no evidence of the following idea, but my personal experience and countless stories tell me that it may be true.... The Fall Classic box gives you an 11.2% probability to pull a prime or better. Joc has a 4.3% individual probability, so when you pull a prime or better prior to hitting the pity timer, there is a…
  •  @TheFullMonte - with a 60% weekend discount, your cash outflow going B1-P10 is about 119K and the balls generated are worth about 389K, so net cash generation of about 270K. With no discounts the net generation is only about 91K.
  • No, I don't experience the death freeze. My biggest irritation is when live boost kicks in and my APs become less reliable. I'm guessing the death freeze primarily impacts gold and silver teams, but interested in other's thoughts.
  • I hear you, that's a lot of play time. This year it feels like WOH is not about if you can beat it, it's more about how fast you can beat it (all about volume). I have all my bats at 20/20 so I can fly through WOH royale in 10-12 minutes by just autoplaying everything. Today I have Torii Hunter as my closer (20/20 with a…
  • This is likely a minority view because I play too often, but for diamond teams I think it makes sense to cycle cap the prime reward regardless of whether you want the player. 25 cycles should produce close to 300K PXP (assuming you go S10, G10), 140K LXP and 1M cash. Gimme.
