New player, looking for guidance

Hey all, first time playing this game. I want to have fun and spend $0, how should I play this game to get a good team? I can’t get through 1 level of WOH and I lose 70% of my bonus games and tournament games, but I win almost all of my prime and season games. What should my roadmap look like? Thanks in advance.

Find another game. I'm not joking

Yes, we are aware of the game having crashing issues in the middle of WoH, but we can't compensate you for the gold you lost at this time. This is done on a case by case basis. - TSB Customer Service

Well I’m getting the Show but I just want something I can play when I’m not home, kill some time at work, and I love baseball.

You'll need to spend at least 1$ to make the game playable. Step 2, find a club to mooch off of.

If you're patient and don't care about club points, it's very easy to get a good team. If you want to be completely f2p(although, ads are unbearable; I'd strongly suggest a 99 cent purchase), watch videos and play gold battles to get gold. WoH won't be easy for awhile(unless you go plat/diamond) so again, just need to be patient.
If you're not having fun, you're losing.

Yeah, I think I made a $1.99 purchase on one of the specials this weekend, for gold and maybe some other stuff. Did it to get rid of the ads though. I'm currently the highest Bronze, was nervous to go to Silver.

How do I know what club to join? What should I be looking for?

One of the main things to look for is club activity. That will help get good rewards. Also, look at team strength and the levels of the teams. Diamond teams are going to play more which will help with club rewards and leveling up the club which would mean evo and other resources. Unfortunately you might get boot from those clubs due to them wanting a stronger team.

I suggest... no, I recommend that you run as fast as you can from this game before it snares you. But if you are a glutton for punishment then @DFBB and @2003cobra advice is really sound. If you do continue on don't spend money on this game. It'll be pretty brutal the first part but as legends and ATG'S come out in the fall the game loosens up quite a bit. Just be patient take what the game gives you and resist the urge to chase. Strategize spending your resources on players that will help you long term. Videos for gold are crucial as getting all freebie challenges trust me they add up. Gold battles at bronze is an awesome source for gold. Getting in a active club but also one that is kind of relaxed so you don't get booted will also be key.

@Toughthundercats is correct: QUIT now. I played the game at ALL levels. I'm slowly getting rid of this addiction. If you want to "enjoy" it, it costs a lot of time and money. GLU rigs the events (LITERALLY RIGS THEM) to encourage you to play at the highest level (Diamond). In order to compete at Diamond, you will need tons of resources and weekly disposable income.  Trust me, I was there.

I found Gold to be the happy medium, but now with all the extra boxes, rally events, etc, GLU is back to altering difficulty on events to encourage you to move up tiers.  Playing a game over and over again that you know is rigged to cheat gets really dull after a while.

They want you loading videos for gold, which is smart. However, you will soon find that, in order to compete, you will need about 100K in gold per event to pull all the players.  This takes weeks to accumulate, even in a good club.

Go find something else now. Seriously.

Oh, and this doesn't even touch the issues with CS, game crashes, etc.

It depends how much time you want to commit to it. But @DFBB is correct. If you don’t care about club points, it’s doable. However, getting a decent club will be difficult but if you find the right group, it could be beneficial. If you really don’t want to spend anything I would avoid diamond for sure, atleast until you can beat woh regularly. Eventually maybe going diamond will help if you just play hours on end if woh you can cycle cap players to build your team.

Honestly you are better off joining a club that has players similar to you where you can work together.    Play H2H games as that is a fun way to play with users that doesn't cost anything.
The reality is being a F2P player and winning gets harder and more impossible by the year and by the week.   You simply aren't gonna be able to compete in WOH, Bonus game and Prime games consistently unless you go diamond which simply isnt affordable time or money wise for most players.   It will get easier later in the year but for now its tough sledding for most.  Yes videos are free gold, but it hardly feels like you are actually playing a game when you do that.      People that are saying quit now I can't really blame since that is where I am currently but there are ways to play free, you just wont be dominating events.

Another sincere piece of advice: DON'T CHASE PLAYERS!! Especially for 2021.

I've played three seasons of this. In 2019, there were only new boxes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with the occasional box for a special event. Every weekend there was one "bonus" player they wanted you to buy that usually wasn't worth a crap anyway.

Now? Due to GLU's greed and increasing bonus sets, there are new boxes of players EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

The weekends now have two to three bonus players they want you to pay cash for, only for you to dump them Monday for XP.

Today's Al Oliver is tomorrow's Shawn Green and the next day's Mookie Wilson. You will see MANY multiple players in a given week with the same position and or position/skills, whereas in years past, if you saw something you wanted/needed, you had to plan and chase. You will also see an OVERLOAD of pitchers now too.

For example, my lineup has a hole a 1B, currently. I did not chase the top player in the 250 box (don't ever do this on a weekend) bc I knew the odds were stupid and the skills sucked. There will be another 1B later. Likely Wednesday. Maybe TH! If not, definitely this weekend.

This is one of the few ways GLU's greed has helped F2P players.

While this is actually great advice for 'new' and casual players, it's also not easy for vets. Reason being: it's so damn fun to chase(if you catch). Last weekend, I had a very unfortunate tilt with boxes. I obv know better and I didn't even 'need' any of the players(although, they did help). Anyways, I chased because it was fun. Logic be damned, it was what I wanted to do and I did it. At the end of the day, it's a game and you're the boss. No rules.

If you're not having fun, you're losing.

Or, save you gold to chase, but with the plan of building resources on repulls is another strategy.

@DFBB, you likely racked up on XP, so there was that!
