Club leader MIA

If the club leader and assistants quit playing, is there a way to promote a replacement? Or is there something in place that will automatically replace them after a certain amount of time since last login? Or is the club just dead?

    You're best advised to communicate with the rest of the club and start a new one.  You can contact Customer Care to switch some of your roles, but I don't know how quickly they'd get that done.
