Game running slowly

I have an iPod 4G. Not great, I know, but it's all I have. It's very hard to find games that run smoothly on an iPod 4G, so when I first got ZAMF I was happy to see that it ran pretty well despite a few lag issues here and there.
But now, after the update, the game is constantly freezing and running slowly. If I want to leave a room I have to wait 10-30 seconds staring at my frozen screen before it starts again. It will then run smoothly for a minute or two before the freezing and choppy/lagginess starts.
Zombie battles are horrible and take a long time because it will freeze between and during actions.
Anyone else having this issue?
