It depends on the person whether it is a waste or not. For example, if someone buys the best weapon with real money, they have made the game that much easier with money. Or if you earn skulls and then buy it, that requires more time and effort to get it. So the money you use is really buying time that you would have spent in the game earning that weapon, as well as saving up energy so you can play the game longer.
So if you think it's a waste, then don't buy anything with money. If you've bought something and then think it's a waste, then just let it go and learn your lesson. And hope for more episodes. :]
