2 types of defense?

Strange thing just happened. I attacked the same player, Peri, for 2 games in a row, revenge attacks, with the sniper rifle. I noticed there were 2 different defense formations.
In the first game his rocket launcher was to my right at the wall, in the second attack it was at the front. Seemed to be about the same strength as far as sentries go in both set-ups.
Not saying there's anything wrong with it, just noticed it, thought I'd mention it.

Yeah the two level short range bases that are maxed out are the hardest to beat.
