Ducks with an assault rifle

I have hunted Spurwing Ducks three times with an assault rifle and that particular bounty has not advanced. Any idea how to get credit for them or make sure it doesn't happen again? Advice anybody?

Only ducks count, spurwing ducks don't for some reason.
