Lossing GLU gems during multiplayer game

I am using OSX (iMac) and have noticed that when I play a multiplayer game against the black dragon and die, I sometimes get revived. I thought the other player was doing this but have noticed I lose 10 GLU gems of my own. I did not revive myself. Why am I losing GLU gems that I was saving for other uses when I did not revive myself?
Can another player revive me and cause me to use my own gems? Either way this is a problem. This has happened a number of this but this is the first time I was able to see how it happens. I want my gems back. Any suggestions?
