What are prep slots for?

I see them in each venue, costing 10? Gold coins. Not sure what it does and the question is not addessed in general troubleshooting. Thanks

The prep slots allow you to use special recipes that you made ahead of time in the prep kitchen. Those special recipes attract certain VIPs who give a special ability, like fast feet, sometimes leave gold tips. I believe it's 10 gold to open the first slot, 25 to open the second, but I don't know how much it is to open the third because I haven't opened the second yet.
