I have five venues. But only one has that little floating grey box that gives coins and ingredients.. any ideas on why that is?

I have 0 including the one I do receive gifts for.

There's a list, if you tap the "i" in the (now purple) Wishelin star info box at each venue which shows you what level box you will receive based on how many requirement have been met. Since update, seems bonus box level now changes weekly because dueling in each venue several times has become a requirement to advance. It also now tells you how much time until the next bonus box will drop. But, go figure, it no longer tells you when Wishelin Inspector will arrive. That whole aspect has been retooled.
