First post so hope this makes sense, can anyone tell me why I don't receive hearts I send plenty and am wondering what the star box is for beside the heart box and message box in friends list.

Regarding hearts - I believe you can't get more than 900. I got a message to that effect when trying to "accept" hearts. If you have 900 then spend some and then you can add more. Otherwise it could be tied to the ongoing "network connection" issue. It is unlikely that no one would send hearts if they are active.
If none of the existing posts here helps then contact in-game support. I have not noticed such issues myself but there are plenty of bugs lately.
