ChefDuels: stuck at "Connecting to the Network" message

I've just unlocked ChefDuels. Gordon now prompts me to tap the ChefDuels icon, but each time I do so, I just get stuck at the "Connecting to the Network" message until it fails. Unfortunately, since the screen is dimmed to force me to tap the ChefDuels icon, I cannot do anything else in the game. Can you guys help me? :(

    I feel it doesn't clear itself you may have to reinstall the game.

    at one stage I had a similar, though not exactly th same problem. In the end I reinstalled, very nervous about whether I would lose all my upgrades. Worked perfectly, got all my upgrades back once I connected with Facebook and now works fine.
