You would think the 1.3x multiplier would apply to the final amount of points, but I guess this is not the case. I have not had the experiences that you are referring to, the only bug that I've encountered (I'm on iOS) is that sometimes, the game crashes after exiting a round in WOH or Slugfest and it resets your progress towards the next level. I'll keep an eye out for these bugs, but I'm sure that the developers will swiftly fix…

I would say stick it out, if and when you become VIP, you'll enjoy reaping the rewards it offers you. If not, you will most likely lose all progress towards it and your investment will be in vain. Best of luck, either way.
